Charleston Photo Diary
This past weekend we spontaneously decided to go to Charleston for a quick getaway! I love how close we are and can make a fun road trip out of any free weekend. The weather forecast looked amazing so we just went for it! It didn’t disappoint! The trees and flowers were starting to bloom and the high 70s and sunshine just boosted our moods and energy like nothing else can. We love taking long walks (we covered 11.5 miles in 24 hrs! Ouch!) and we got our fill of house envy too. We dream of owning our own slice of Charleston some day and every trip back just reinforces the reasons why. We love it! Check out my other Charleston posts if you want to know my other favorite spots, but here is a quick run down of our itinerary and some photos, if you’d like to see…
12pm - Arrive at hotel and check in- Since it was such a short trip we stayed at the Days Inn on Meeting St. Zero frills, but perfect location for one night in Charleston.
12:30 - Grab club sandwiches for lunch at Millers All Day.
1:30 - Take off strolling south on King St. for a long walk south of Broad St., pausing to take some pictures and point out our favorite houses.
3:30 - Circle back up to Second State Coffee for lavender lattes.
4:00 - Do a little shopping on Kings Street.
5:00 - Back to the hotel to freshen up before dinner
6:00 - Head to Melfi’s for a pre-dinner apéritif. I got a classic aperol spritz (DELISH!) and Austin got a cocktail called an Aviation, which was tasty and new to us! We also split an appetizer of stracciatella and olive oil bruschetta and it was delightful!
7:00 - For dinner, we walked across the street to one of our favorites Little Jack’s Tavern for tasty burgers, fries, and a great and unique chopped salad!
8:30 - Took an evening walk around South of Broad to take in all the houses at night when it’s so calm and quiet (and peek into the windows of who is home! :)
9:30 - Dessert at Peninsula Grill where we split a slice of their famous coconut cake (and why we picked it as our wedding cake!)
8:30 - Up and at ‘em! Walk to Callie’s Hot Little Biscuit and waited in line (because they are that good!) for our mini cinnamon biscuits!
9:30 - Walked around some more downtown admiring houses, stopped by Candlefish, checked out a new hotel that has been under construction for all the years we’ve been visiting Charleston and is finally open, and walked through College of Charleston.
1:00 - Off to lunch at Rodney Scotts BBQ. We really liked it, but probably like Lewis BBQ in Charleston better!
2:00 - And then we hit the road to get back to Durham at a decent time to prep for the week ahead!
