Planning Our Coast to Coast Road Trip
This fall Austin is going to be working at the University of Portland with their Men's Soccer team. While he is pretty pumped and loves Portland, I'm going to stay in Durham to keep my job and we will re-evaluate our situation after the soccer season. We dated long distance for 5 years so this is familiar territory for us, but then we never lived in the same place so it felt normal for us at the time. Now I'm SUPER bummer to live apart for a few months, but what I am excited about is our cross-country road trip from Durham, NC to Portland, OR.
I've never been to the northwest and will be crossing into many states that I've never seen before. We are making the trip over 6 days and making stops along the way. Our first stop is Nashville, to stay with Austin's brother and sister in law and meet our brand new niece, Avonlea Mae! This will be the highlight of our trip and we can't wait to see her tomorrow. We are going to stay Thursday and Friday night in Nashville and will visit with my parents too before we head to our next destination- Kansas City, KS. This is a city neither of us has visited before, but my study abroad flatmate Molly lives there with her fiance Joe whose wedding we will be attending in a couple months! On Sunday, we will drive to Denver, CO! I've never been to Colorado and I'm really excited to see if it lives up to all the hype! People LOVE Denver! On Monday we will travel through Salt Lake City and I hope to stop and see some pretty views before we spend the night in Boise, ID. Then on our final day, we will drive to Portland, OR and move into Austin's apartment.
Whew! 44 hours in the car (at least!) is no small feat even over 6 days! Luckily, I'll get to spend the rest of the week working remotely from Portland and hopefully, we will get to stretch our legs with plenty of hikes and maybe even a trip to Cannon Beach! I hope to document a lot of our trip, the audiobooks and podcasts we listen to and all of the roadside attractions we come across. Follow along on our Instagram pages for real-time updates, but I will report back on the trip once we make it to Portland!
