Charleston, South Carolina has always held a special place in our hearts. Much like our affinity for Paris in Europe, Charleston has a certain historic charm and an ever present allure that constantly invites us back no matter the time of year or length of visit. The 'Holy City' offers an abundance of pleasure that can stimulate even the most skeptical traveler. The colorful houses offer photo opportunities for days, while the narrow cobblestone streets of South of Broad give you a true sense of the Charleston of early American history. The food, drink, and shopping can compete with any street in London or NYC. We truly adore this city and eagerly anticipate any chance we can to get back. We've highlighted a couple of our favorites, a list I'm sure will continue to grow!
I have never heard anyone say they don't like Charleston! It's easy to think the city is overhyped and that your expectations could be shattered, but in our experience they are always exceeded! We've been to Charleston several times and have switched up our stays at my friend's family home and The King Charles Inn- which is a very nice hotel in a great location and usually the cheapest option we find! Summer is downright hot and humid and crowded, so I suggest sticking to Fall, Winter, and Spring visits. We always say if we win the lottery, we are buying a house South of Broad, but until then we will make the most of our trips! Check out our always growing list of favorite restaurants, bars, stores, and activities below! We hope you book a trip to America's best city as soon as possible!
